The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research transferred 13 indigenous technologies to industries and start-ups on May 11, 2026, to strengthen fire safety, sustainable construction, and energy-efficient infrastructure development. The initiative reflects India’s push toward technological self-reliance under the Atmanirbhar Bharat vision by promoting commercialization of indigenous research and innovation.
Major Highlights
- The technology transfer programme was organized in New Delhi as part of the monthly Technology Transfer series conducted at CSIR Headquarters.
- The technologies were developed by CSIR-Central Building Research Institute, commonly known as CSIR-CBRI Roorkee.
- The 13 innovations focus on critical areas such as fire safety, sustainable construction, infrastructure durability, energy efficiency, and advanced building materials.
- One of the major technologies transferred was a fire-resistant transparent intumescent coating designed for wood and substitute surfaces, which creates a protective insulating layer during high-temperature exposure.
- CSIR-CBRI also introduced an IPN coating technology aimed at protecting reinforced cement concrete structures from corrosion, environmental degradation, and structural stress.
- A low-carbon brick manufacturing technology was transferred to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with traditional brick production methods.
- Hybrid solar-assisted heat pump systems were provided to industry partners to promote energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable heating solutions for residential and commercial buildings.
- Another important innovation included prefabricated high-strength steel cord reinforcement technology for wall protection, offering stronger and more resilient infrastructure solutions.
- Dr. N. Kalaiselvi, who also serves as Secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, emphasized that science and technology-driven innovation will play a central role in building a developed India.
- During the event, the CSIR-CBRI Annual Report 2025–26 was released along with a video presentation on the Smart Village Initiative showcasing technological applications for rural development.
